William G. “Bill” Brown, 84, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 8:05 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois. Born in Casey, Illinois on May 22, 1927, he was the son of Robert W. Brown and Louise (Button) Brown. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois in Electricial Engineering. Bill served with the U. S. Navy during W. W. II. He was employed with Marathon Oil Company in the Engineering Department for 36 years retiring in July 1986. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a former member of the Robinson Elk’s Lodge #1188 and the Oblong V. F. W. Post #10635. Bill was a life-long learner who loved inspiring, encouraging and supporting others. He enjoyed traveling, vegetable & flower gardening, radio controlled airplanes & boats, his swimming pool and working on the family farm near Casey, Illinois.
On December 31, 1968, he married Brigitte Johanna Lotz, who survives. Also surviving are two sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda & Robert Cox and Joan Ulrey; several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Brown and Troyt York.
Pastor Phil Boyd will officiate the funeral service. Burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery, Greenup, Illinois.
